Internship Program Overview

The TBI Summer Internship Program offers qualified college and post-graduate students an invaluable inside look at the TBI’s critical mission and extensive work across the state. While this internship does not guarantee future employment, it provides students from diverse backgrounds with a broad and hands-on understanding of the complex functions required to fulfill TBI’s unique role within Tennessee’s criminal justice system.

Program Details

  • Duration: This is a 10-week summer program.
  • Dates: June 1, 2026 – August 7, 2026.
  • Scope: Interns will gain a unique, hands-on experience working directly with Special Agents across multiple investigative divisions.
  • Divisional Exposure: The program facilitates rotations through various units to provide comprehensive exposure, including:
    • Criminal Investigation Division (CID)
    • Drug Investigation Division (DID)
    • Medicaid Fraud Control Division (MFCD)
    • Cyber & Digital Evidence Unit (CDEU)
    • Collaboration with Criminal Intelligence Analysts and Victim Services Coordinators.

Key Responsibilities and Learning Opportunities

Interns will rotate through each division to gain exposure to a wide range of investigative functions. Responsibilities and learning opportunities may include:

  • Observing investigative operations in both office and field settings, providing real-world insight into law enforcement procedures.
  • Participating in surveillance and other critical investigative support activities, understanding the practical application of investigative techniques.
  • Reviewing and organizing case files, reports, and video evidence, developing skills in evidence management and analysis.
  • Assisting with administrative and project-based tasks, contributing to the daily operations and strategic initiatives of the Bureau.

This internship offers a unique opportunity for students to learn directly from experienced Special Agents and professional staff while actively contributing to real-world investigative work that supports law enforcement partners and enhances public safety throughout Tennessee.

Academic Year Preference

  • Internships are open to college juniors, seniors, or those pursuing post-graduate education.
