Spend Your Summer Making an Impact with TBI’s Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) Team!

As a TBI SAKI intern, you will gain a unique, hands-on understanding of the criminal justice system by contributing to a vital statewide effort focused on strengthening investigations and supporting justice for victims. A key component of your role will involve evaluating and closing gaps in Tennessee’s DNA databases, which are critical for generating leads in criminal cases.

Working closely with the SAKI Census Lead, you will delve into the intricacies of criminal justice data, analyzing it for accuracy and completeness. This will provide invaluable insight into how processes within Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS), the Forensic Services Division (FSD), and the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) intersect to impact crucial case outcomes.

This opportunity is ideal for problem-solvers who understand how small, diligent steps can drive significant results and who enjoy collaborating across professional disciplines. The most suitable candidates will possess the ability to rapidly absorb new information, work comfortably at a computer for extended periods, and communicate challenges effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

Gain real-world experience in criminal justice and forensic processes, bolstering familiarity with the state’s lead investigative agency.
Contribute to meaningful work that directly impacts public safety and victim support.
Analyze criminal justice data for accuracy and completeness under the guidance of the SAKI Census Lead.
• Learn about the intersections and impact of processes within Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS), Forensic Services Division (FSD), and the Criminal Investigation Division (CID).
Build analytical and professional skills within a multidisciplinary law enforcement environment.

Academic Year Preference:

Internships are open to college juniors, seniors, or those pursuing post-graduate education.
