TBI 2026 Summer Headquarters Rotation Internship

### Internship Overview

This internship offers qualified college and post-graduate students an unparalleled inside look into the TBI’s critical mission and extensive operations. While not a guarantee of future employment, this program provides a comprehensive understanding of law enforcement operations, investigative functions, and the administrative support required to fulfill the TBI’s unique place in the state’s criminal justice system. The program is specifically designed as a rotational structure, offering interns hands-on experience across multiple core divisions.

### Program Details

Program Duration: This is a 10-week summer program, running from June 1, 2026, to August 7, 2026.
Compensation: School Credit. This is an unpaid internship designed for academic credit.

### Rotational Divisions & Focus Areas

Interns will gain exposure through rotations within key TBI Headquarters divisions, including:

Medicaid Fraud Control Division (MFCD): Focusing on investigations related to fraud and abuse within the Medicaid program.
Middle Region Criminal Investigation Division (CID): Engaging with a broad spectrum of criminal investigations.
Middle Region Drug Investigation Division (DID): Concentrating on cases involving illicit drug trafficking and related offenses.
Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS): Understanding the vital role of information management and technology in law enforcement operations.

### Key Responsibilities & Learning Opportunities

Interns will actively engage in a variety of tasks and observational opportunities designed to provide practical experience and enhance their understanding of investigative work:

Observing Investigative Operations: Gaining firsthand insight into both office-based and field investigative activities.
Participating in Investigative Support: Assisting with surveillance and other critical support functions.
Case File Management: Reviewing, organizing, and cataloging case files, investigative reports, and various forms of evidence, including video.
Administrative and Project Assistance: Contributing to essential administrative tasks and assisting with ongoing projects within assigned divisions.
Direct Learning: Opportunities to learn directly from experienced Special Agents and professional staff.
Contributing to Public Safety: Engaging in real-world investigative work that directly supports law enforcement partners and contributes to public safety across Tennessee.

### Specialized Track: Cyber Squad Internship

Interns specifically assigned to the Cyber Squad will receive specialized exposure and training in the rapidly evolving field of cybercrime. Responsibilities and learning opportunities will encompass:

Cyber-Related Criminal Investigations: Involvement in various types of complex technology-facilitated crimes.
Cryptocurrency Tracing: Gaining experience in tracking digital currencies.
Digital Evidence Management: Learning techniques for the collection, preservation, and analysis of both digital and non-digital evidence.
Cybercrime Research & Awareness: Participating in research, public awareness initiatives, education, and intelligence sharing.
Law Enforcement Support: Understanding how the Cyber Squad supports TBI Special Agents and federal, state, and local law enforcement partners in investigating, identifying, and deterring cybercriminals.

### Qualifications

Academic Standing: Open to current college juniors, seniors, or students pursuing post-graduate education.
Criminal Background Check: This position requires a comprehensive criminal background check. Candidates will be required to provide information regarding their criminal history for consideration.
