Job Description: Tax Services Intern/Trainee
This entry-level internship within PwC’s Tax Services department offers opportunities to work on diverse projects involving various tax specialties. Interns will be part of a team solving complex business issues, from strategy to execution. The role involves supporting senior team members in:
• Advising clients: On local and overseas tax affairs, acting as a strategic consultant in areas such as business analysis, indirect tax management, dispute resolution, and global enterprise tax solutions. This includes helping clients identify and reduce tax risks, meet compliance obligations, implement tax strategies aligned with business objectives, resolve tax authority disagreements, and manage tax accounting and reporting.
• Project engagement: Participation in projects encompassing international tax, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), state and local tax (SALT) accounting, regulatory processes, tax reporting, and tax strategy. Specific areas within tax services include:
• SALT (State and Local Tax): Consulting across a broad spectrum of tax areas, including asset management, income/franchise tax planning, dispute resolution, sales and use tax, employment taxes, credits and incentives, and abandoned property.
• Real Estate Tax: Advising on federal, local, and overseas tax affairs related to deals and transactions (mergers, acquisitions, investments, conversions, etc.), including partnership tax, corporate tax, state and local tax, international tax, and REIT taxation.
• International Tax Services (ITS): Assisting clients with cross-border tax needs, managing global tax rates, cost reduction, and regulatory inquiries. This includes working with local tax laws, reporting, statutory filings, corporate strategy, transfer pricing, and indirect tax.
• M&A (Mergers and Acquisitions) Tax: Helping clients meet tax obligations during M&A transactions, including restructuring, divestiture, partnerships, and insolvency. This involves establishing treasury goals, analyzing tax assets, assessing tax risks, and modeling tax impacts.
• Skill Development: Interns will develop skills in researching and analyzing tax laws, interacting with clients and firm management, demonstrating self-motivation, and understanding technical aspects of tax compliance services. They will also gain experience with automation and digitization in a professional services setting, working with large datasets, and leveraging data visualization tools.
Qualifications:
• Basic Qualifications: Juris Doctorate (JD) is required; experience is not required.
• Preferred Qualifications: Preferred fields of study include Taxation and Accounting. A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred. Before starting full-time, interns must meet educational requirements for relevant professional credentials.
• Preferred Knowledge/Skills: Demonstrated abilities in researching tax laws, interacting with clients and management, self-motivation, understanding technical aspects of tax compliance, and researching business/industry trends. Experience with automation, digitization, and data analysis is also preferred.
Additional Information:
• Internship positions are entry-level and typically occur during the winter/spring or summer before graduation.
• Salary range is $28.00 – $44.75 (dependent on skills, experience, location, and applicable laws). A comprehensive benefits package is offered.
