Job Description: Tax Services Intern/Trainee

This entry-level internship within PwC’s Tax Services department offers opportunities to work on complex business issues, from strategy to execution. Interns will contribute to a team of problem-solvers, assisting with various aspects of tax services for clients.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Support: Assisting clients with their local and overseas tax affairs, acting as a strategic consultant across diverse areas. This includes business analysis, indirect tax management, dispute resolution, and global enterprise tax solutions.
Tax Risk Management and Compliance: Helping clients identify and mitigate tax risks, ensuring compliance with tax obligations, and implementing tax strategies that align with business objectives.
Project Involvement: Participating in projects encompassing international tax, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), state and local tax (SALT) accounting, regulatory processes, tax reporting, and strategy.
Technical Skills Application: Utilizing research and analytical skills to interpret tax laws, rules, and regulations. Applying technical knowledge to tax compliance services, including planning, strategy, and execution. Conducting research on business and industry trends to contribute to proposals.
Data Analysis and Communication: Handling, manipulating, and analyzing data responsibly. Communicating findings clearly and concisely, both verbally and in written materials. Working with large, complex datasets and using data visualization tools.
Collaboration and Innovation: Working effectively within a team, embracing diverse viewpoints, and contributing to innovative solutions using new and existing technologies.
Professional Development: Utilizing the PwC Professional framework for leadership development and continuous learning.

Specific Areas of Focus (JD/LLM opportunities):

SALT (State and Local Tax): Working on a broad range of tax areas, including asset management, income/franchise tax planning, dispute resolution, sales and use tax, employment taxes, credits and incentives, and abandoned property.
Real Estate Tax: Advising clients on federal, local, and overseas tax matters related to deals and transactions (mergers, acquisitions, investments, etc.), including partnership tax, corporate tax, state and local tax, international tax, and REIT taxation.
International Tax Services (ITS): Assisting clients with cross-border tax needs, managing global tax rates, identifying cost reductions, and responding to regulatory inquiries. This includes work with local tax laws, reporting, statutory filings, corporate strategy, transfer pricing, and indirect tax.
Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) Tax: Supporting clients through various aspects of M&A transactions, such as restructuring, divestiture, partnerships, and insolvency. This involves establishing treasury goals, analyzing tax assets, assessing tax risks, and modeling tax impacts.

Qualifications:

Basic: Juris Doctorate (JD) is required. 0 years of experience.
Preferred: Preferred fields of study include Taxation and Accounting. A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred. Before starting full-time, candidates should meet educational requirements for relevant professional credentials (e.g., CPA). Experience researching and analyzing tax laws, interacting with clients and firm management, demonstrating self-motivation, and possessing knowledge of federal and state tax laws are advantageous. Familiarity with automation, digitization, and data visualization tools is also desirable.

Compensation:

The salary range is $28.00 – $44.75 (for Maryland-based roles; other locations may vary). A comprehensive benefits package is offered.
