Job Description:
KPMG is seeking a Tax Seasonal Intern to join their State & Local Tax practice. As an intern, you will be an integral part of a diverse team assisting high-profile clients with complex business matters. The role involves:
Responsibilities:
• Tax Planning: Assisting with tax planning for businesses by identifying and developing tax savings opportunities (income/franchise, sales/use) related to legal entity changes. Designing specific plans to address a business’s state and local tax needs.
• Transaction Analysis: Analyzing the state and local tax implications of various transactions, including mergers and acquisitions. Helping clients identify and negotiate business incentives and available credits.
• Staying Current: Staying up-to-date on state legislative, judicial, and administrative developments in the tax landscape.
• Multi-state Company Support: Assisting multi-state companies with state and local tax issues, including compliance, advising, planning, and controversies.
• Tax Compliance & Returns: Helping with tax issues related to income and franchise taxes, as well as sale, use, and property taxes. Supporting the preparation and/or review of state income tax estimated payments, extensions, and tax returns.
• Tax Authority Notices: Assisting in addressing notices received from state tax authorities. Conducting research and drafting technical memoranda related to compliance issues.
• Technology Development: Building capabilities in key technologies enabling tax professionals for client service delivery, such as artificial intelligence (AI), Alteryx, Power BI, etc.
Qualifications:
• Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting, finance, taxation, mathematics, economics, information technology, data and analytics, engineering (financial, industrial, or systems), or an equivalent program.
• Preferred: Degrees and/or areas of study: Accounting and Taxation.
• Pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the principal place of business for this position (completion of academic credits required prior to starting as a Tax Associate).
• Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Strong tax research skills.
• Demonstrated quality service mindset.
• Strong technical aptitude, critical thinking skills, and ability to navigate MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
• Excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills.
• Flexible and adaptable team player.
• Resourceful in delivering high-quality work.
• Ability to learn and navigate technologies like AI, Alteryx, and Power BI.
• Must reside within a reasonably commutable distance to the office.
• Ability to travel to reasonably commutable work locations using own means of transportation.
• Ability to travel and/or work on-site at client premises as needed.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship.
