Job Description: Tax Seasonal Intern (State & Local Tax practice)

Responsibilities:

Tax Planning: Assist internal team members in tax planning for businesses, including identifying and developing tax savings opportunities (income/franchise, sales/use) that arise from legal entity changes and designing specific plans to help businesses address their state and local tax matters.
Transaction Analysis: Analyze the state and local tax ramifications of various transactions, including mergers and acquisitions. Assist clients with identifying and negotiating business incentives and available credits.
Legislative Updates: Stay current on state legislative, judicial, and administrative developments related to state and local taxes.
Multi-State Compliance: Assist multi-state companies with state and local tax issues, including compliance, advising, planning, and controversies.
Income & Franchise Taxes: Assist with tax issues related to income and franchise taxes, as well as sales, use, and property taxes. Prepare and/or review state income tax estimated payments, extensions, and tax returns.
Notices & Research: Assist in addressing notices received from state tax authorities. Research and draft technical memoranda related to compliance issues.
Technology Proficiency: Build capabilities in key technologies that enable tax professionals for client service delivery, such as artificial intelligence (AI), Alteryx, Power BI, and more.

Qualifications:

Must: Be enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in accounting, finance, taxation, mathematics, economics, information technology, data and analytics, engineering (financial, industrial or systems), or an equivalent program.
Preferred: Degrees and/or areas of study: Accounting and Taxation. Pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the principal place of business (the state in which the office is located) for this position (completion of academic credits required prior to starting as a Tax Associate).
GPA: Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
Skills: Strong tax research skills, demonstrated quality service mindset, strong technical aptitude, critical thinking skills, ability to navigate MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), excellent communication, time management and leadership skills, flexible and adaptable team player, resourceful in delivering high-quality work, ability to learn and navigate technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), Alteryx, and Power BI.
Location: Must reside within a reasonably commutable distance to the office and be able to travel to reasonably commutable work locations using own means of transportation.
Travel: Ability to travel and/or work on-site at client premises as needed, at times with relatively short notice.
