Tax Intern, Core Tax Services – Summer 2028 | BDO USA

The Tone:
This is a seasonal internship at BDO USA, located in Grand Rapids or Kalamazoo, MI, for the Summer 2028 term. BDO provides assurance, tax, and advisory services to clients across the U.S. and globally. This role is crucial for delivering essential tax services to clients and allows the intern to gain practical experience, develop professional relationships, and contribute to client success.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Tax Compliance: Ensure clients comply with all applicable tax authorities while minimizing their tax burdens, and adhere to all Firm policies and quality standards.
• Tax Return Preparation: Prepare simple tax returns, quarterly estimates, and extensions using tax software applications.
• Tax Accruals: Assist with components of income tax provisions, correctly applying Firm policies and standards related to ASC 740 (FAS 109 and FIN 48).
• Tax Consulting Research: Operate online research tools to gather pertinent tax information and monitor tax law and client factual developments to inform client service teams.
• Client Support: Assist with responses to notices from the Internal Revenue Service and help project year-end filings for clients.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters program in Accounting or other relevant field.
• Experience: No specific years of experience are required for this internship role.
• Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint; strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work effectively in a team setting; ability to prepare simple tax returns.
• Bonus: Pursuing a masters degree in Accounting or other relevant field; leadership experience; actively pursuing school credits to become a CPA; positive attitude and willingness to learn.
