Tax Intern at KPMG
This internship within KPMG’s International Tax practice offers a chance to work with a diverse team, advising high-profile clients on complex business challenges. You will gain hands-on experience in:
• Advising multinational enterprises on cross-border transactions: Help clients navigate international tax complexities, optimizing global supply chains and capital mobilization for international operations.
• Providing tax structuring advice: Support private equity and corporate clients with mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, dispositions, and IPOs in the context of international transactions.
• Learning about changes in tax law: Stay current with evolving regulations and advise clients on their impact.
• Preparing international tax elements for financial statements: Contribute to the accurate reporting of international tax implications.
• Assisting KPMG audit teams with tax considerations: Help ensure that global operations and transactions are appropriately accounted for in financial statements.
• Preparing tax deliverables: Create reports, models, slide decks, memorandums, and emails under the guidance of senior team members.
• Building capabilities in key technologies: Develop skills in AI, Alteryx, Power BI, and other technologies that enable efficient tax service delivery.
Responsibilities:
• Team with colleagues to advise multinational enterprises on tax matters relating to cross-border transactions and other business decisions, such as where to operate, how to optimize global supply chains and how to access and mobilize capital to fund global operations
• Help provide tax structuring advice to private equity and strategic corporate clients that engage in mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, dispositions and initial public offerings in the context of cross-border transactions; support clients with internal restructuring transactions
• Learn about changes in tax law (through KPMG provided training and materials, as well as independent study) and advise clients regarding the impact of those changes on their business; provide recommendations to address potential risks or realize opportunities
• Help prepare international tax elements of the tax provision calculation for our clients’ financial statements and international tax elements of U.S. federal income tax returns for our clients
• Assist KPMG audit teams with their audit of financial statements, including consideration of tax implications arising from global operations and transactions
• Prepare deliverables such as tax calculations (or “models”), slide decks, memorandums, or emails with coaching and direction provided by other engagement team members
• Build capabilities in key technologies that enable tax professionals for client service delivery such as artificial intelligence (AI), Alteryx, Power BI, and more
• Act with integrity, professionalism, and personal responsibility to uphold KPMG’s respectful and courteous work environment
Qualifications:
• Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing the following degrees/majors: JD or LLM in Taxation, or equivalent program
• Upon completion of this internship, candidates must have additional academic credits to complete before obtaining their degree and/or CPA eligibility requirements
• Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above
• Interest and exposure to a broad range of U.S. international and domestic tax law provisions
• Demonstrated quality service mindset; strong technical aptitude, critical thinking and research skills and ability to navigate MS Office applications (including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook) and use Excel modeling
• Excellent communication, time management and leadership skills; flexible and adaptable team player; and resourceful in delivering high quality work
• Ability to learn and navigate technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), Alteryx and Power BI
• Must reside within a reasonably commutable distance to the office for this position and be able to travel to reasonably commutable work locations using own means of transportation, such as a personal vehicle or public transportation
• Ability to travel and/or work on-site at client premises as needed, at times with relatively short notice
• Authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future is preferred
