Tax Intern | Spectrum Brands, Inc
The Tone:
This is a hybrid internship at Spectrum Brands, Inc., offering full-time work during summer and winter breaks, and part-time work during the academic year. Spectrum Brands’ global enabling functions, which include Finance, Legal, IT, Human Resources, Supply Chain, and Commercial Operations, provide enterprise-wide strategy and common processes to help its businesses grow. This role is crucial for supporting the Tax department across various categories, including federal, state, and international tax return preparation, provision work, planning, and project-based analysis.

• Mission: Supports the Tax department by assisting with the accurate preparation of various tax returns and provision work across federal, state, and international tax categories.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word. Tax return applications (plus), research applications (plus).
What You’ll Actually Do
• Tax Return Preparation: Prepare accurate federal proforma, state, and international income tax returns along with supporting schedules.
• Tax Provision Work: Calculate and prepare annual and quarterly tax provisions, including the identification of book/tax differences.
• Audit Support: Assist in gathering and providing necessary information for income, property, and sales/use tax audits.
• Account Maintenance: Support the maintenance and monitoring of tax-related accounts essential for financial reporting.
• Special Projects: Contribute to various projects including integrations, divestitures, tax incentives, and research initiatives.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree at an accredited university.
• Experience: Entry-level career stage with a strong interest in tax, finance, or accounting.
• Skills:
• Ability to research and interpret income, payroll, property, and sales/use tax issues and financial data for accurate filings.
• Professional oral and written communication skills to interact with governmental agencies and divisional finance teams.
• Strong analytical, organizational, project management, and decision-making capabilities.
• Proficiency in managing, interpreting, and reporting on voluminous data, alongside a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Bonus: Academic emphasis on finance, accounting, and/or tax. Prior experience with tax return or research applications.
