Tax Intern Job Description
KPMG is currently seeking a Tax Intern to join their KPMG Tax practice. The internship offers opportunities for professional development through a range of multifaceted engagements, formal training, and informal mentoring.
Responsibilities:
• Perform tax-related tasks, including compliance, advising, and planning for diverse clients in various industries. This includes working with multistate and/or multinational enterprises, including partnerships, corporations, and S-corporations.
• Participate in data analytics assignments utilizing KPMG technology. This includes creating tax return work papers and tax returns for clients, as well as coordinating offshore resources.
• Conduct tax due diligence to identify tax exposures and opportunities.
• Assist multi-state companies with state and local tax issues, including compliance, advising, planning, and resolving controversies.
• Advise multinational enterprises on business decisions, such as location optimization, entity selection, supply chain optimization, and accessing capital for global operations.
• Provide guidance on tax planning decisions, helping clients anticipate and understand short- and long-term implications while considering a multinational tax risk profile, global effective tax rate, and cash posture.
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team on assignments and build strong client relationships.
• Develop skills in key technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), Alteryx, Power BI, and others, to enhance client service delivery.
Qualifications:
• Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business, accounting, finance, taxation, mathematics, economics, information technology, data and analytics, engineering (financial, industrial or systems), or a comparable program.
• Preferred degrees and/or areas of study: Accounting and Taxation
• Pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the principal place of business (completion of academic credits required prior to starting as a Tax Associate).
• Upon completion of the internship, candidates must have remaining academic credits to complete before obtaining their degree and/or CPA eligibility requirements.
• Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics is preferred.
• Demonstrated quality service mindset, strong technical aptitude, critical thinking skills, and proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
• Excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills. A flexible, adaptable team player with a resourceful approach to delivering high-quality work.
• Ability to learn and navigate technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), Alteryx, and Power BI.
• Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to the office and be able to travel to nearby work locations using personal transportation or public transportation.
• Ability to travel and/or work on-site at client premises as needed, sometimes with short notice.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring employment-based visa sponsorship (no sponsorship is available).
