Job Description: Tax Intern – Commercial Japanese Practice

KPMG is seeking a Tax Intern for its Commercial Japanese practice within Business Tax Services. This role involves assisting in a wide range of corporate tax services for Japanese-owned companies operating in the United States.

Responsibilities:

Client Advisory: Assisting in advising clients on all aspects of corporate tax services, including compliance, planning, and research.
Tax Return Preparation: Helping prepare corporate tax returns for Japanese-owned companies operating in the US.
Financial Statement Accounting: Assisting with accounting for income taxes (ASC 740 and IAS 12) reported on financial statements.
Teamwork: Working within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver comprehensive tax services to Japanese-based clients.
Technology Proficiency: Developing skills in key technologies used in tax service delivery, such as artificial intelligence (AI), Alteryx, and Power BI.

Qualifications:

Education: Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting, finance, taxation, mathematics, economics, information technology, data analytics, engineering (financial, industrial, or systems), or a related field.
Preferred Education: Accounting and Taxation degrees are preferred. Candidates should be pursuing the educational requirements for CPA licensure in the office’s state of location (completing required academic credits before becoming a Tax Associate).
GPA: Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
Languages: Bilingual in English and Japanese, with the ability to utilize both languages in a business setting.
Technical Skills: Coursework or a minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data analytics is preferred. Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) is essential.
Soft Skills: Demonstrated quality service mindset; strong technical aptitude; critical thinking skills; excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills; flexibility; adaptability; resourcefulness; and teamwork abilities.
Location & Travel: Must reside within commuting distance of the office and be able to use personal transportation. Travel to client sites may be required, sometimes with short notice.
Legal Requirements: Authorization to work in the U.S. without requiring employment-based visa sponsorship is preferred.
