Job Description: Tax Intern (Commercial Japanese Practice in Business Tax Services)
This internship within KPMG’s Business Tax Services focuses on their Commercial Japanese practice. The successful candidate will assist in a wide range of corporate tax services, contributing to a multi-disciplinary team serving Japanese-based companies.
Responsibilities:
• Client Advising: Assist in advising clients on a full spectrum of corporate tax services, encompassing compliance, planning, and research.
• Tax Return Preparation: Help prepare corporate tax returns for Japanese-owned companies operating in the United States.
• Accounting for Income Taxes: Assist with accounting for income taxes (ASC 740 and IAS 12) as reported on financial statements.
• Teamwork: Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver comprehensive tax services to Japanese-based companies.
• Technology Development: Build capabilities in key technologies utilized by tax professionals for client service delivery, including artificial intelligence (AI), Alteryx, and Power BI.
Qualifications:
• Education: Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in accounting, finance, taxation, mathematics, economics, information technology, data and analytics, or engineering (financial, industrial, or systems), or an equivalent program.
• Preferred Education: Degrees and/or areas of study in Accounting and Taxation are preferred. Progress towards CPA licensure in the state where the office is located is also preferred (completion of required academic credits before starting as a Tax Associate).
• GPA: A preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Languages: Bilingual proficiency in English and Japanese is required, with the ability to utilize both languages effectively in a business setting.
• Technical Skills: Coursework or a minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics is preferred. Strong technical aptitude, critical thinking skills, and proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook) are essential.
• Soft Skills: Demonstrated quality service mindset, excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills are necessary. The ideal candidate is a flexible and adaptable team player, resourceful in delivering high-quality work.
• Location & Travel: Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to the office and be able to travel to client premises as needed, sometimes with short notice. Own transportation is required.
• Visa: Authorization to work in the U.S. without needing employment-based visa sponsorship is preferred.
