Job Description: Tax Intern – Commercial Japanese Practice

KPMG is seeking a Tax Intern for its Commercial Japanese practice within Business Tax Services. This internship offers a multifaceted experience, including:

Client Advising: Assisting in advising clients on a full spectrum of corporate tax services, including compliance, planning, and research. This involves working with Japanese-owned companies operating in the United States.
Tax Return Preparation: Helping prepare corporate tax returns for Japanese-owned companies doing business in the U.S.
Accounting for Income Taxes: Assisting with accounting for income taxes (ASC 740 and IAS 12) reported on financial statements.
Teamwork: Collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team to provide a wide range of tax services to Japanese-based companies.
Technology Development: Building capabilities in key technologies used for client service delivery, such as artificial intelligence (AI), Alteryx, and Power BI.
Professionalism: Maintaining integrity, professionalism, and personal responsibility within KPMG’s work environment.

Qualifications:

Education: Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in accounting, finance, taxation, mathematics, economics, information technology, data and analytics, engineering (financial, industrial, or systems), or an equivalent program. A focus on accounting and taxation is preferred.
CPA Track: Progressing toward CPA licensure requirements in the state where the office is located (completion of necessary academic credits before starting as a Tax Associate is required).
GPA: Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
Languages: Bilingual in English and Japanese, with the ability to use both languages effectively in a business setting.
Technical Skills: Coursework or a minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data analytics is preferred. Strong technical aptitude, critical thinking skills, and proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) are essential.
Soft Skills: Demonstrated quality service mindset, excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills; flexibility, adaptability as a team player; and resourcefulness in delivering high-quality work.
Location & Travel: Must reside within a commutable distance to the office and be able to travel to client premises as needed, sometimes with short notice. Personal transportation is required.
Authorization: Authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship is preferred.
