Job Description: Tax Intern (International Tax Practice)

KPMG is seeking a Tax Intern to join its International Tax practice. The intern will work alongside colleagues to advise multinational enterprises on various tax matters related to cross-border transactions and other business decisions. This includes advising on:

Operational Location: Helping clients determine the optimal location for their operations.
Global Supply Chain Optimization: Assisting in streamlining and optimizing global supply chains for tax efficiency.
Capital Access and Mobilization: Advising on accessing and mobilizing capital to fund global operations.

The intern will also provide tax structuring advice to private equity and strategic corporate clients involved in:

Mergers and Acquisitions: Supporting clients with the tax implications of M&A activity.
Joint Ventures: Advising on the tax aspects of joint venture formations.
Dispositions: Assisting with the tax implications of asset sales and divestitures.
Initial Public Offerings (IPOs): Supporting clients with the international tax aspects of going public.
Internal Restructuring Transactions: Providing tax guidance on internal corporate restructuring.

Responsibilities further include:

Tax Law Updates: Staying current on changes in tax law (through KPMG training and independent study) and advising clients on the impact of these changes. This includes providing recommendations to mitigate risks or capitalize on opportunities.
Tax Provision Calculations: Assisting in the preparation of international tax elements for clients’ financial statements.
Tax Return Preparation: Helping prepare the international tax components of U.S. federal income tax returns for clients.
Audit Support: Assisting KPMG audit teams with the audit of financial statements, considering the tax implications of global operations and transactions.
Deliverable Preparation: Creating tax calculations (models), slide decks, memorandums, and emails under the guidance of senior team members.
Technology Proficiency: Building skills in key technologies used for client service delivery, including AI, Alteryx, and Power BI.

Qualifications:

Education: Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a JD or LLM in Taxation, or an equivalent program. Additional academic credits must be required upon internship completion.
GPA: Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
Tax Knowledge: Interest and exposure to a broad range of U.S. international and domestic tax law provisions.
Skills: Demonstrated quality service mindset; strong technical aptitude, critical thinking and research skills; proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook); and strong Excel modeling capabilities.
Soft Skills: Excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills; flexibility and adaptability as a team player; resourcefulness in delivering high-quality work.
Technology: Ability to learn and utilize technologies such as AI, Alteryx, and Power BI.
Location: Must reside within reasonable commuting distance to the office and be able to travel to client sites as needed. Own transportation is required.
Authorization: Authorization to work in the U.S. without requiring employment-based visa sponsorship is preferred.
