Job Description: Tax Intern
KPMG is seeking a Tax Intern to join its KPMG Tax practice. The internship offers a wide range of responsibilities encompassing various aspects of tax work:
• Tax Compliance, Advisory, and Planning: Performing tax-related tasks, including compliance work and providing advisory and planning services for a diverse clientele across various industries. This includes work with multistate and/or multinational enterprises (partnerships, corporations, and S-corporations).
• Data Analytics: Participating in data analytics assignments using KPMG’s technology. This involves creating tax return work papers and tax returns for clients and coordinating with offshore resources.
• Tax Due Diligence: Conducting tax due diligence to pinpoint tax exposures and opportunities.
• State and Local Tax (SALT): Assisting multi-state companies with SALT issues, including compliance, advisory, planning, and handling controversies.
• Multinational Enterprise (MNE) Advisory: Advising MNEs on:
• Business Decisions: Providing guidance on location and operational choices, entity selection, supply chain optimization, and strategies for accessing and mobilizing capital for global operations.
• Tax Planning Decisions: Helping clients anticipate and understand potential short- and long-term tax implications, considering their multinational tax risk profile, global effective tax rate, and cash posture.
• Teamwork and Client Relations: Working within multi-disciplinary teams on assignments and maintaining excellent client relationships.
• Technology Proficiency: Building capabilities in key technologies crucial for client service delivery, including artificial intelligence (AI), Alteryx, and Power BI.
Qualifications:
• Required: Enrollment in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in business, accounting, finance, taxation, mathematics, economics, information technology, data and analytics, engineering (financial, industrial, or systems), or an equivalent program. Authorization to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship is required.
• Preferred:
• Degrees/Areas of Study: Accounting and Taxation.
• Pursuing CPA licensure requirements in the principal place of business (completion of academic credits required before starting as a Tax Associate).
• GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data analytics.
• Demonstrated quality service mindset; strong technical aptitude; critical thinking skills; proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
• Excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills; flexibility and adaptability as a team player; resourcefulness in delivering high-quality work.
• Ability to learn and utilize technologies like AI, Alteryx, and Power BI.
• Commutable distance to the office and ability to travel to client premises as needed.
