Tax Intern – Commercial Japanese Practice, Business Tax Services
KPMG is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Tax Intern to join their Commercial Japanese practice within Business Tax Services. The ideal candidate will be pursuing a degree in accounting, finance, taxation, or a related field, and possess strong analytical and communication skills.
Responsibilities:
• Assist in advising clients on a wide range of corporate tax services, including compliance, planning, and research.
• Contribute to the preparation of corporate tax returns for Japanese-owned companies operating in the United States.
• Assist with accounting for income taxes (ASC 740 and IAS 12) as reported on financial statements.
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a comprehensive range of tax services to Japanese-based companies.
• Develop proficiency in key technologies that support tax professionals in client service delivery, such as artificial intelligence (AI), Alteryx, Power BI, and more.
Qualifications:
• Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting, finance, taxation, mathematics, economics, information technology, data analytics, engineering (financial, industrial, or systems), or an equivalent program.
• Preferred: Degrees and/or areas of study: Accounting and Taxation.
• Pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the principal place of business (the state in which the office is located) for this position. Completion of academic credits required prior to starting as a Tax Associate.
• Upon completion of the internship, candidates must have additional academic credits to complete before obtaining their degree and/or CPA eligibility requirements.
• Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Bilingual in English and Japanese with the ability to use both languages effectively in a business environment.
• Coursework or a minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data analytics preferred.
• Demonstrated quality service mindset; strong technical aptitude, critical thinking skills, and proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
• Excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills; flexible and adaptable team player; resourceful in delivering high-quality work.
• Ability to learn and navigate technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), Alteryx, and Power BI.
• Must reside within a reasonably commutable distance to the office and be able to travel to reasonably commutable work locations using personal transportation or public transportation.
• Ability to travel and/or work on-site at client premises as needed, at times with relatively short notice.
• Authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future is preferred.
