Job Description: Tax Intern (Commercial Japanese Practice)

KPMG is seeking a Tax Intern for its Commercial Japanese practice within Business Tax Services. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of corporate tax services for Japanese-owned companies operating in the United States.

Responsibilities:

• Assisting clients with a full spectrum of corporate tax services, including compliance, planning, and research.
• Preparing corporate tax returns for Japanese-owned companies operating within the US.
• Assisting with accounting for income taxes (ASC 740 and IAS 12) as reported on financial statements.
• Collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver comprehensive tax services to Japanese-based companies.
• Developing proficiency in key technologies used in client service delivery, such as AI, Alteryx, and Power BI.

Qualifications:

• Enrollment in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in accounting, finance, taxation, mathematics, economics, information technology, data and analytics, or engineering (financial, industrial, or systems), or an equivalent program.
Preferred: Degrees/areas of study in Accounting and Taxation.
• Progressing towards CPA licensure requirements in the state where the office is located (completion of necessary academic credits before starting as a Tax Associate).
• Upon internship completion, candidates must have remaining academic credits to finish their degree and/or meet CPA eligibility requirements.
Preferred: GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Japanese, with the ability to utilize both languages effectively in a business environment.
Preferred: Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics.
• Demonstrated commitment to quality service, strong technical aptitude, critical thinking skills, and proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
• Excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills; ability to work effectively as a flexible and adaptable team player; resourcefulness in delivering high-quality work.
• Ability to learn and utilize technologies such as AI, Alteryx, and Power BI.
• Must reside within reasonable commuting distance to the office and have reliable transportation.
• Ability to travel to client premises as needed, sometimes with short notice.
Preferred: Authorization to work in the U.S. without requiring employment-based visa sponsorship.
