Job Description: Tax Intern – International Tax Practice
This internship offers the opportunity to become an integral part of KPMG’s International Tax practice. Responsibilities include:
• Advising Multinational Enterprises: Collaborating with colleagues to advise multinational enterprises (MNEs) on tax matters related to cross-border transactions and key business decisions. This encompasses advising on operational locations, global supply chain optimization, and accessing/mobilizing capital for global operations.
• Providing Tax Structuring Advice: Assisting private equity and strategic corporate clients with tax structuring advice for mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, dispositions, and initial public offerings (IPOs) within the context of cross-border transactions. Support will also be provided for internal restructuring transactions.
• Tax Law Updates & Client Advisory: Staying abreast of changes in tax law (through KPMG’s training, materials, and independent study) and advising clients on the impact of these changes. This includes recommending strategies to mitigate risks and capitalize on opportunities.
• Tax Provision & Return Preparation: Contributing to the preparation of international tax elements within clients’ financial statement tax provisions and U.S. federal income tax returns.
• Supporting KPMG Audit Teams: Assisting KPMG audit teams with their financial statement audits, focusing on tax implications stemming from global operations and transactions.
• Deliverable Preparation: Creating deliverables such as tax calculations (models), slide decks, memorandums, and emails under the guidance of senior team members.
• Technology Proficiency Development: Building skills in key technologies used in client service delivery, including artificial intelligence (AI), Alteryx, and Power BI.
• Maintaining Professionalism: Adhering to KPMG’s values of integrity, professionalism, and personal responsibility within a respectful and courteous work environment.
Qualifications:
• Education: Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a JD, LLM in Taxation, or an equivalent program. Upon internship completion, additional academic credits must be remaining before degree attainment and/or CPA eligibility.
• GPA: A preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Tax Knowledge: Demonstrated interest and exposure to a broad range of U.S. international and domestic tax law provisions.
• Skills: Strong technical aptitude, critical thinking, research skills, proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), and Excel modeling skills. Excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills are essential, along with adaptability as a team player.
• Technology: Ability to learn and utilize technologies such as AI, Alteryx, and Power BI.
• Location & Travel: Must reside within a commutable distance to the office and be able to travel to client premises as needed, potentially with short notice. Personal transportation is required.
• Authorization: Authorization to work in the U.S. without requiring employment-based visa sponsorship is preferred.
