Tax Associate | H&R Block

This is a seasonal in-person Tax Associate role at H&R Block, located in Hagerstown, MD. What You’ll Actually Do
• Client Interaction: Meet with clients to gather comprehensive information and understand their individual tax situation.
• Tax Preparation: Prepare complete and accurate tax returns, utilizing provided training and support from experienced teammates.
• Client Education: Explain complex tax information clearly and provide recommendations in a manner clients can easily understand.
• Opportunity Identification: Identify potential tax savings opportunities for clients and recommend relevant products and services.
• Problem Solving: Apply problem-solving skills to analyze client information, addressing questions or unique situations with guidance and available resources.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level position, with no prior tax experience required. Candidates must possess a high school diploma / GED/ equivalent and successfully complete the H&R Block Income Tax Course.
• Experience: Required experience includes interacting with customers or clients within a service-oriented environment.
• Skills: Strong communication skills are essential, specifically the ability to explain information clearly and ask insightful questions to understand client needs. Problem-solving skills are also critical, involving organizing information effectively and identifying appropriate solutions. Additionally, comfort and proficiency in using various digital tools and systems, including AI-based tools like Copilot and ChatGPT, are necessary.
• Bonus: Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Experience in a client-facing or consultative role (such as financial advising, insurance, retail sales, or professional services) is also a plus, particularly experience asking questions and recommending solutions based on customer needs. The ability to work 15–35 hours per week, with availability up to 40 hours during peak periods, including evenings and weekends during tax season, is also preferred.
