The Tone:
This is a paid Tax & Accounting Internship located in GreenStone Farm Credit Services’ East Lansing branch. GreenStone is a substantial financial services institution, managing over $16 billion in assets and operating with more than 600 employees across 35 locations throughout Michigan and northeast Wisconsin. The organization provides vital short and long-term credit, along with a variety of products and services including crop insurance, accounting services, and tax planning and preparation. This role is crucial for providing essential support to the accounting and tax teams during the busy tax season, ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality financial services to our agricultural customers.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Seasonal, Part-time (Minimum three days per week, 6-8 hours each day from December 2026 through April 2027)
• Location: In-person East Lansing, MI (Some travel may be required)
• Pay: $20 hourly
• Mission: This role supports essential tax and accounting processes to ensure timely and accurate financial service delivery for customers, contributing to the organization’s broader financial offerings.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Processing: Assist staff with the processing of year-end accounting information.
• Reporting: Prepare payroll tax reports and coordinate workload to meet critical deadlines.
• Form Generation: Prepare business and individual W-2, 1099, and other miscellaneous tax forms.
• Data Entry: Provide support to the Senior Tax Accountant by performing data entry for income tax returns.
• Tax Preparation: Provide basic individual tax support and preparation, with responsibilities adjusted based on experience and education.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level individual actively pursuing a degree in accounting.
• Experience: Currently at Sophomore status or above in an accounting degree program.
• Skills: Demonstrated interest in tax preparation.
• Bonus: Interest in or prior experience working within the agricultural sector.
