Systems Engineer Principal | General Dynamics Information Technology

The Tone:
This is a full-time, regular role at General Dynamics Information Technology, located on customer site in Fort Bragg, NC. General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) delivers technology solutions and mission services to every major agency across the U.S. government, defense, and intelligence community. This role is crucial to national safety and security, protecting the country from threats by helping ensure today is safe and tomorrow is smarter. You will lead a team in designing, building, and implementing a secure private cloud platform tailored to a SOCOM customer’s unique operational needs.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Lead & Strategize: Lead a team of engineers and administrators in developing and executing a comprehensive cloud smart strategy, focused on establishing a robust and resilient hybrid cloud environment.
• Architect & Secure: Define the architecture, security posture, and operational processes for the SOCOM customer private cloud.
• Oversee Migrations: Oversee application migration efforts and ensure alignment with DoW regulations for handling classified information.
• Provide Guidance: Participate in project planning and management, providing technical guidance and expertise.
• Platform Design & Build: Drive the design, build, and implementation of a secure private cloud platform tailored to the customer’s unique operational needs.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degree required. Must be a US Citizen with a current Top Secret/SCI clearance. Competent to work at a high technical level on all phases of systems engineering activities, focusing on secure cloud platforms.
• Experience: 7+ years of related experience. This includes extensive knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory administration and Windows Server platforms (2016/2019/2022), experience with PowerShell Scripting and systems automation, and strong server virtualization (VMWare and/or Microsoft Hyper-V). Also required is experience performing troubleshooting for technicians and/or end users utilizing a ticketing system such as Service Now.
• Skills: Administration System, Enterprise System Administration, Server Admin, Systems Automation, Systems Design, PowerShell Scripting, Server Virtualization (VMWare/Hyper-V), Troubleshooting, Outstanding Interpersonal and Communication Skills, Technical Documentation Creation, Detail-Oriented Organization.
• Bonus: Proven track record of leading teams in delivering complex private cloud projects, deep expertise in private cloud architectures (e.g., VMWare vSphere, KVM) and cloud management platforms. Extensive experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices architecture, strong understanding of security protocols and standards (NIST, STIGs, CMMC) for private cloud implementations, and proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash) and object-oriented programming (Java, Go).
