Job Description – Systems Engineer Co-op

This co-op position offers hands-on experience working within a team of experienced engineers on real-world projects. The specific responsibilities assigned to the co-op will depend on the project’s needs and the individual’s skills, but generally involve:

Instrumentation & Electrical Design (40%):

Create instrument lists: Analyze P&ID drawings to identify and list the necessary instruments for a project.
Compile documentation: Prepare documentation for the procurement of control and instrument hardware.
Provide technical support: Assist panel fabrication technicians with technical questions and challenges.
Inspect enclosures: Check completed control enclosures for compliance and quality.

System Design and Configuration (30%):

Participate in design reviews: Attend meetings with clients to discuss and finalize system design.
Assemble development systems: Set up development environments using project hardware and computers.
Configure user interfaces: Design and configure user interfaces (HMI) for operators to interact with the system.
Configure control algorithms: Implement and configure control algorithms for DDC, PLC, and/or DCS systems.
Draft documentation: Create system documentation based on provided templates.
Assist with demonstrations: Help with showcasing the system to clients during demonstrations and acceptance testing.

Onsite System Startup (30%):

Install software: Install project software and configuration onto systems at the customer site.
Perform loop checks: Verify connections and functionality between instruments and control systems.
Calibrate and tune: Calibrate instruments and fine-tune control parameters for optimal performance.
Participate in testing: Contribute to functional tests of all system components.
Troubleshoot problems: Identify and resolve issues that arise during installation.
Program modifications: Implement necessary field changes based on requirements.
Develop documentation: Contribute to the development of commissioning test plans and training materials.

Requirements:

• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
• Must be a full-time student.
• Strong academic record with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in a technical field, related to engineering or systems.
• Passion for problem-solving and developing solutions.
