Detailed Job Description:
This is a Systems Architect position within the SOF GLSS program, located in Lexington, KY. The successful candidate will lead the development of systems requirements for a diverse range of defense systems, including aircraft, ground vehicles, and maritime systems. The role requires defining, designing, and integrating complex systems to meet customer needs and ensure regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
• Leading the development of systems requirements for aircraft, ground vehicles, and maritime systems.
• Defining system functionality, performance, and interface requirements.
• Developing and maintaining system architecture documents and models.
• Collaborating with stakeholders to identify and prioritize system requirements.
• Analyzing and interpreting customer requirements, including reviewing specifications, standards, and regulations.
• Designing and integrating systems, developing system design concepts and architectures.
• Evaluating and selecting system components and technologies.
• Ensuring system compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams (engineering, test and evaluation, program management, and customer teams).
• Developing and maintaining system documentation (architecture documents, requirements documents, specifications, and interface control documents).
• Participating in design reviews, program reviews, and other relevant meetings.
• Staying current with industry trends, technologies, and regulatory requirements.
Required Skills and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in systems architecture, design, and integration for aircraft, ground vehicles, and/or maritime systems.
• Proven experience in developing and managing systems requirements for complex systems.
• Strong knowledge of multiple domains: aircraft systems (avionics, propulsion, structural), ground vehicle systems (mechanical, electrical, software), and maritime systems (shipboard systems, propulsion, navigation).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with system modeling and simulation tools (SysML and UML modeling languages, system architecture tools like Cameo).
• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (DO-178C, DO-254, MIL-STD-810, FAA, EASA, and IMO regulations).
• U.S. citizenship required (ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance).
Desired Skills and Experience:
• Master’s degree in a relevant engineering field.
• Experience with Agile development methodologies and tools (JIRA).
• Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and practices (Risk Management Framework (RMF), NIST Cybersecurity Framework).
• Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and digital twin technologies.
Security Clearance: A government security clearance is required; U.S. citizenship is mandatory. The clearance level is Secret.
Work Location and Schedule: The position is located in Lexington, KY, and offers part-time remote telework. The specific work schedule will be determined during the hiring process. Non-standard 40-hour work weeks may be assigned.
