Systems Administrator Intern
Overview: This internship position provides comprehensive support to IT staff by troubleshooting hardware, software, and connectivity issues to maintain reliable and uninterrupted operations. The intern will be responsible for ensuring servers remain secure and compliant by applying timely security updates and remediating vulnerabilities as needed. This role manages full server lifecycle activities, including deployment, configuration, administration, troubleshooting, and testing, while also improving efficiency through the automation of repetitive and routine tasks.
Conditions of Employment:

Key Responsibilities of the Systems Administrator Intern:
- Support IT staff in troubleshooting hardware, software, and connectivity issues to ensure reliable operations.
- Ensure servers are up-to-date on security updates and remediate vulnerabilities as required.
- Participate in server deployment, configuration, administration, troubleshooting, and testing.
- Automate repetitive tasks to improve efficiency.
Security and Privacy Duties and Responsibilities:
Individuals working for DSS, Inc. or any Subsidiary will be subject to security and privacy requirements as explained in HIPAA, FedRAMP, and NIST 800-53. Additionally, they are required to undergo specific FedRAMP training to ensure compliance with all associated controls and responsibilities in the day-to-day performance of their duties. Individuals working in departments considered to be in a high-risk category will be required to undergo advanced training based on their role and level of access. Those with access to modify data and the configuration baseline will require further training.

Required Skills and Experience:
- Scripting in any programming language such as Python, PowerShell, or similar.
- Experience troubleshooting computer/server issues.
- Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Desire to learn and share ideas in a collaborative work environment.
Education Requirements:
For Undergraduate Students:
- Seniors with a major in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Management Information Systems.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 or better.
For Master’s or PhD Students:
- Major in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Management Information Systems.
- Minimum GPA of 3.5 or better.
Physical Demands:
- Standing:
- Approximately 5% per day.
- Sitting:
- Approximately 20% per day.
- Walking:
- Approximately 5% per day.
- Stooping:
- Approximately 5% per day.
- Lifting:
- If traveling, ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted (luggage, laptop, etc.). Up to 30 lbs. unassisted during datacenter maintenance.
- Computer Work:
- Approximately 50% per day. Exposure to video display terminals occurs on a regular basis.
- Telephone Work:
- Approximately 5% per day.
- Reading:
- Approximately 10% per day.
- Other – Meetings:
- 60% + per day. Work environment includes typical computer-related noise levels and paper and equipment-generated dust.
