• Job Title: Swim Instructor Aid – Student Service
• Division: Student Life
• Department: RecWell
• Compensation: $9.50/hour, Weekly average approximately 6-12 hours per week. Required hours may include days, evenings, and weekends.

• Job Description (Core Duties):
Purdue University Swim Instructor Aides assist Water Safety Instructors (WSI) in teaching adult and youth swimming lessons for the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program. This includes group, private, and semi-private lessons. Primary duties involve:
• Following lesson plans provided by Water Safety Instructors.
• Setting up and cleaning the teaching area.
• Delivering a quality swim lesson educational experience to participants.
• Assisting in teaching group lessons with a certified LTS instructor.
• Individually teaching private lessons.
• Prerequisite(s):
• Successful completion of a swim skills evaluation conducted by the Assistant Director and/or Program Coordinator(s).
• Opportunity to take the American Red Cross WSI certification course is available (which will increase pay rate upon completion).
• Qualifications:
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Position Responsibilities:
• Assist the WSI in conducting their prepared lesson plans.
• Follow the prescribed American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim curriculum.
• Teach associated skills correctly to the corresponding class participants.
• Maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout the facility.
• Maintain a safe learning environment for both youth and adult participants.
• Know and enforce all policies and procedures for aquatic facilities.
• Perform daily upkeep of supplies throughout the facility.
• Exhibit friendliness, diplomacy, and tact in responding to customers.
• Handle emergencies and prioritize responsibilities while continuing to provide the highest level of customer service.
• Maintain confidentiality and exhibit professional conduct when handling sensitive information.
• Responsible for all scheduled shifts (based on class/exam schedules for the semester).
• Must attend all scheduled staff meetings to gain and/or share pertinent information.
• Other duties as assigned.
