About the Company:

The Public Services Engineering Division of Salt Lake City administers the design and procurement of construction projects funded by the City’s Capital Improvement Program and the Funding Our Future bond. The division focuses on improving city infrastructure, including streets, office buildings, bikeways, and sidewalks.

Detailed Job Description:

This is a seasonal, paid internship (not to exceed 6 months) designed to provide students with professional experience. The internship is academically oriented and requires enrollment in an accredited school program related to surveying engineering.

As a Surveying Engineering Intern, you will support various projects improving Salt Lake City’s public infrastructure. Responsibilities include:

Fieldwork: Applying modern surveying techniques using GPS and robotic instruments, collecting and documenting data. This involves moderate physical effort and handling weights up to 40 pounds. Expect intermittent sitting, standing, and walking, with moderate field time.
Office Work: Assisting with mapping, analysis, and design using AutoCAD and ArcGIS. This includes data research regarding plat and legal description analysis, and field-to-office automation.
Research: Collecting data, reviewing research materials, determining accuracy and validity of sources, designing research projects, determining appropriate methodologies, and writing technical reports.
Compliance: Adhering to city and department policies and procedures.

The position requires working with confidential information, which must be maintained appropriately. The internship will terminate upon completion of the internship period.
