Job Title: Survey Technician Intern

Reporting Structure: This position reports to Management Consulting leadership.

Internship Type and Duration: This is a full-time internship specifically for the Fall 2025 semester.

Overview and Key Responsibilities:

As a Survey Technician Intern at Woolpert, you will be part of the integrated Roads Condition Assessment Field team and transportation program. You will work alongside Woolpert professional engineers, condition assessment experts, transportation advisors, and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) staff, primarily focusing on collecting and processing survey data.

Essential Functions and Duties:

Field Team Participation: Work as an integral part of the Roads Condition Assessment Field team and contribute to the transportation program.
Planning Support: Provide support and learn to plan field assessment processes directly with senior staff.
Client Interaction: Work directly with clients under the supervision of senior management to validate schedules and plan for approval.
Data Collection: Gain real-world experience collecting data in the field with licensed professional engineers and condition assessment experts.
BLM Support: Assist with the collection and processing of data for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
Project Tasks: Assist with various projects including GIS, completing transportation PASER analysis, performing aggregate depth analysis, and general data collection.

Travel and Logistical Requirements:

Travel: Must be willing to travel when needed throughout the internship duration. This project specifically requires 2 weeks in the field and will be part-time as needed outside of those concentrated field periods.
Expenses: A company credit card will be supplied for all hotels and flights. Government per diem will be paid back at the end of your extended stay, meaning you will need to possess a credit card or funds to pay for food for a two-week period upfront.

Work Authorization:

No Visa Sponsorship: Woolpert is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
Existing Work Authorization: Applicants must already possess work authorization in the country where the job is located.

Minimum Requirements:

Academic Status: Must be enrolled as a student at an accredited college or university, with at least sophomore status.
Major: Must be studying engineering or a related field.
Outdoor Work: Must be willing to work outside in the field, regardless of weather conditions or environment.
Technical Aptitude: General understanding and willingness to learn various survey equipment and Trimble Business Center Software.
Independence: Ability to perform tasks and solve problems with a high degree of independence.
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Teamwork: Ability to function well in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Organization: Exceptional multitasking and time management skills.
Pre-Employment Checks: Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen prior to employment.
Driving:
• Able to drive a GMC2500 vehicle with a camper.
• Ability to back down mountain sides with limited visibility.
• Ability to turn the vehicle around in extremely tight locations.
Physical Demands:
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs.
• Ability to operate a jackhammer and use a pickaxe to core roads.
Environmental Adaptability:
• Have no fear of heights or motion sickness due to extremely curvy and mountainous ranges.
No fear of wilderness areas for long periods of time.
Focus: Understanding that no cell phone use will be permitted during assessment periods, as full focus is required.

Salary Range:

Hourly Rate: USD $21.00 – USD $25.50 /Hr.
