Survey Intern | Hunter Engineering Inc.

The Tone:

This hands-on position allows interns to gain real-world experience across diverse projects. The role is crucial for supporting professional survey teams and contributes directly to the accuracy and completion of significant land surveying tasks, all while receiving mentorship from licensed professionals.

• Mission: To assist professional survey crews with field operations, data collection, and processing, contributing to various land surveying projects and learning core industry practices.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Field Assistance: Assist survey crews with daily field operations and accurate data collection.
• Equipment Operation: Learn to operate and gain proficiency with standard surveying equipment including total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, and levels.
• Data Collection: Help establish survey control and collect precise elevation and terrain data necessary for topographic mapping.
• Project Execution: Perform essential construction staking activities and support boundary retracement efforts.
• Data Processing: Process collected field data and assist with the creation of survey drawings using CAD software.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in a surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, or a related degree program, having completed at least one year of coursework.
• Experience: Possess a basic understanding of surveying principles and fundamental mathematics, coupled with a strong work ethic and eagerness to learn.
• Skills: Ability to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions, physical capability to carry equipment, walk long distances, and navigate uneven terrain, along with good communication and teamwork skills.
• Bonus: Prior construction or outdoor work experience, basic familiarity with GPS/GNSS technology or other survey equipment, an interest in pursuing surveying licensure (SIT/LSI/CST/PLS), and coursework in surveying, CAD, or GIS.
