Surveillance Investigator | APEX Investigation
The Tone:
This is an early career, field-based role at APEX Investigation, primarily operating within California. APEX Investigation is a long-standing leader in reducing insurance risks and combating fraudulent claims across various investigation types, including Insurance, Workers’ Compensation, Liability, and Human Resource. This role is crucial for gathering critical intelligence and producing detailed reports that empower clients to make informed decisions, directly supporting the company’s mission of building lasting relationships through trust, integrity, and quality investigations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Surveillance: Perform discreet stationary and mobile surveillance by monitoring, following, and capturing video footage of subjects as they go about their daily activities.
• Documentation: Capture high-quality video footage in line with court evidence standards and prepare detailed, accurate reports on all observed activities, submitting high-quality video evidence to support findings.
• Analysis: Analyze case details to define objectives and verify crucial information such as addresses, phone numbers, and vehicle descriptions, ensuring effective pre-surveillance strategies.
• Field Operations: Engage in both vehicle and foot surveillance while maintaining cover and situational awareness, observing a variety of activities from routine errands to dynamic environments.
• Communication: Maintain consistent communication with your team leader for real-time updates on activity and to adjust strategies as needed, ensuring ongoing coordination throughout investigations.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. This role requires flexible availability, including weekends, holidays, and overnight travel as needed, to meet the demands of investigations across California.
• Experience: Candidates must have ownership or consistent access to a discreet, reliable vehicle that meets specific company guidelines for blending into surroundings. Strong and confident driving skills are essential, along with the ability to consistently work an average of 40-50 hours per week, starting as early as 5:00-7:00 AM. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and a valid credit card for reimbursable travel and gas expenses. Proficiency in using a Windows laptop with the latest operating system is also required, and all applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
• Skills: Key skills include discreet observation, effective video capture, detailed and accurate report writing, analytical thinking for case strategy, and maintaining constant communication with management.
• Bonus: A degree in Criminal Justice or a related field, experience in Loss Prevention, proficiency in Bilingual (Spanish), or military veteran experience are preferred qualifications.
