Job Description: Surgical Technologist Student

Summary:
This role is for a Surgical Technologist (ST) Student. The student will develop competencies and demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of a Surgical Technologist. They will function under direct supervision, progressing to performing ST duties and ST decision making. The student will complete a training program from an accredited technical school and demonstrate progressive competencies, including collaboration with surgical team members to provide procedural care for patients and support for surgeons, ensuring the goals of the surgery team are carried out. As a member of the Operating Room (OR) healthcare team, the student supports the surgical team in the OR by preparing the OR room with needed supplies and equipment, providing support to the OR team during surgery by obtaining needed supplies/instruments to provide patient care in the OR.
Responsibilities:
• Develops competencies in ST duties under direct supervision.
• Collaborates with surgical team members.
• Prepares the OR with necessary supplies and equipment.
• Provides support to the OR team during surgery.
• Supports patient care in the OR.
Experience:
• Internal Candidates: Must have at least 1 year of employment with Froedtert Health and must be in good organizational standing.
• External Candidates: Must have at least 1 year of consistent employment, preferably in a healthcare setting.
Education:
• Currently enrolled in an accredited surgical technologist program.
• High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Licensure:
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 30 days of hire.
