Role Overview: Supply Chain Solutions & Optimization Student
Our department is the crucial link connecting BMW’s production network with integrated supply chain solutions. We are the Gatekeepers of the supply chain for the ultimate driving machine, ensuring parts are delivered at the right time, right place, in the right quantity and quality to maintain continuous production.
Our core focus areas include Material Control, Transportation Control, and Delivery Assurance. This role will immerse you in the complexities of managing a sophisticated global supply chain, offering an invaluable hands-on learning experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supply Chain Optimization & Risk Mitigation: Proactively address and find innovative solutions for areas of uncertainty in material control, such as forecast errors, yield losses, and timing discrepancies in demand and supply. This includes exploring alternatives to traditional safety stock solutions.
- IT & Concept Development: Develop and implement new concepts and IT solutions to support and enhance essential daily tasks within material and transportation control.
- Data Visualization & Analytics: Create and maintain robust visualization tools, including comprehensive material planning dashboards and other reporting mechanisms, to provide actionable insights for decision-making.
- Process Improvement: Optimize existing processes to ensure the highest possible availability of materials, components, and products for planned production and for customer delivery.
- Inventory Management: Define and implement strategies to achieve the lowest possible inventory levels without compromising production continuity or quality.
- Area-Specific Planning: Gain a deep understanding of material planning uncertainty within specific production areas, such as the body shop, and identify opportunities for improvement and increased planning efficiencies.
- Documentation & Standardization: Support the detailed process mapping of business operations and assist in the documentation of standard operating procedures.
- Collaborative Planning: Utilize various resources and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support overall planning activities.
- Leadership & Communication: Opportunity to lead team meetings and deliver clear, concise presentations of findings, progress, and recommendations.
Qualifications:
- Education: Currently pursuing (or in the process of receiving) a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field.
- Academic Standing: Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale), not just in your major.
- Enrollment Status: Must be an enrolled student at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States, having completed at least 30 credit hours at the time of application.
- Technical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with technical aptitude. Experience using tools such as Power BI, SQL, and Data Lake is a significant bonus.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team.
- Work Availability: Ability to work full-time (40 hours / week) on-site for the entire duration of the work term.
- Transfer Students: If you are a transfer student, you must provide your GPA from your current university.
