Key Responsibilities:

As a Structural Engineering Intern, you will be an integral part of our project teams, gaining practical experience across various stages of structural design and analysis. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Structural Design Assistance: Assist in the design of specific elements within overall structural systems for an expansive range of project types. This includes exposure to complex challenges in manufacturing facilities, distribution centers, cutting-edge data centers, commercial developments, self-storage solutions, institutional buildings (churches, public sector), retail spaces, historical preservation, adaptive reuse projects, renovations, and comprehensive existing facility analyses.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Actively interact and coordinate with experienced structural engineers and skilled Revit/CAD Designers. Your role will be crucial in ensuring all project deliverables are produced with meticulous attention to detail, adhering strictly to both client expectations and Bennett & Pless’s renowned quality standards.
  • Technical Documentation and Analysis:
    • Drawing Preparation: Contribute to the creation of precise construction drawings, primarily utilizing industry-standard software such as Revit (a plus) and AutoCAD (required).
    • Engineering Calculations: Prepare detailed engineering calculations as directed by the project structural engineer, applying theoretical knowledge to practical design challenges.
    • Review & Quality Control: Assist in the crucial review process of shop drawings and submittals, ensuring compliance with design specifications and quality benchmarks.
    • Site Inspections: Participate in valuable on-site reviews with the project structural engineer, gaining practical insights into construction processes and real-world structural applications.
    • RFI Responses: Aid in preparing clear and concise RFI (Request for Information) responses, as directed by the project structural engineer, facilitating effective communication with contractors and stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Academic Pursuit: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution (required).
  • Advanced Studies (Plus): Pursuit of a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering is considered a significant advantage.
  • Code Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to learn applicable building codes and standards relevant to project-specific jurisdictions and effectively apply them to design challenges.
  • Software Proficiency:
    • CAD Software: Proven experience with AutoCAD is required. Experience with Revit is a strong plus.
    • Engineering Software: Familiarity with industry-standard engineering software is highly desirable, including but not limited to Microsoft products, Bentley (RAM) products, RISA, EnerCalc, Adapt, and similar analytical and design tools.
