Key Responsibilities

As a Summer Operations Intern within Live Production, you will gain hands-on experience and provide critical support across various departments:

  • Live Operations Team Support: Actively contribute to the daily functions and strategic initiatives of the Live Operations Team.
  • Hatchery Immersion:
    • Engage in comprehensive shadowing to understand proper egg handling procedures, vaccination protocols, transferring processes, and chick handling techniques.
    • Gain insight into the specific roles and responsibilities of each employee within the hatchery environment.
  • Broiler Operations:
    • Witness effective communication strategies with independent growers.
    • Shadow broiler technicians to comprehend their day-to-day responsibilities and challenges.
    • Acquire in-depth knowledge of housing conditions, farm operations, and best practices for broiler management.
  • Breeder Management:
    • Work directly alongside pullet crews, gaining firsthand experience in servicing, vaccination administration, and accurate bird weighing.
  • Feed Mill Processes:
    • Undertake a complete tour of the feed mill to observe the entire production process from raw material intake to finished feed.
    • Develop an understanding of different feed types, their nutritional compositions, and the rigorous testing procedures implemented for quality control.
  • Live Haul Logistics:
    • Observe the overall Live Haul process, understanding its logistical complexities and efficiency requirements.
    • Actively assist in the unloading of trucks, gaining practical experience in this critical stage of the supply chain.
  • Capstone Project:
    • Complete and present a dedicated project focused on identifying and addressing specific issues or opportunities for improvement within the rendering department. This project will require critical thinking, analysis, and presentation skills.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a four-year university or actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more as required by operational tasks.

Compensation & Pre-Employment Details

  • Competitive hourly wage of $21/hour.
  • A generous $2,500 relocation stipend to support your move.
