Job Description: Summer Internship – Software Development Engineer in San Jose, CA
This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of life sciences software applications within Thermo Fisher’s R&D organization. As part of the CMD software team in San Jose, CA, interns will work on applications for Mass Spectrometry Data and Instruments.
Responsibilities:
• Design, develop, and deploy software applications with a strong Web UI component. This involves building data acquisition and workflow software for controlling mass spectrometry instruments, processing raw data, and generating reports.
• Develop and integrate GPT/AI based improvements for applications. This exciting area of development focuses on leveraging the latest advancements in artificial intelligence to enhance software capabilities.
• Build backend services using microservices paradigms and support front-end Web UI development. This requires a strong understanding of both backend and frontend development principles.
• Participate in code, design, and test plan reviews. Interns will gain valuable experience in collaborating with experienced engineers to ensure high-quality software.
• Develop software in C# on the backend and/or Web development with TypeScript on the frontend. This internship provides hands-on experience with industry-standard programming languages.
Qualifications:
• Undergraduate student completing a Computer Science or Biotechnology related degree between December 2025 and June 2026.
• Passion for User Interaction, User Interfaces, and web development. This role requires a strong interest in creating user-friendly and engaging applications.
• Knowledge of web programming frameworks like React and TypeScript. Hands-on experience with these frameworks is essential for success.
• Curiosity about Scientific Data Processing. An interest in understanding the scientific context behind the software development is beneficial.
• 0 years of work experience required; previous related internships preferred.
• Consistent track record of results demonstrating integrity, innovation, involvement, and intensity.
• Energized through championing change, driven in getting results, and savvy in navigating ambiguity.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills with a high degree of emotional intelligence.
Start Date:
The internship program is set to begin on either May 12th or June 16th, 2025, for a duration of 10-12 weeks, depending on student availability and academic calendars.
Compensation & Relocation:
• hourly rate between $21.50 – $28.75 depending on location.
• Relocation stipend of $5,000 for students located 50+ miles away from the internship location.
