Summer Internship Program at Orthopaedic Associates of Wisconsin

This extraordinary Summer Internship Program offers participants a unique opportunity to gain in-depth exposure to the field of orthopaedic medicine. You will shadow physicians and physician assistants at Orthopaedic Associates of Wisconsin (OAW), experiencing the full scope of patient care and the daily life of a medical professional.

Program Highlights:

  • Shadowing Experience: Directly observe OAW physicians and physician assistants across a variety of specialties. Students will be paired with mentors based on their interests.
  • Comprehensive Patient Care Observation: Witness every step of patient care, including interactions in clinics, pre and postoperative units, operating rooms, and during bedside rounds.
  • Understanding Medical Practice: Participants are encouraged to align with clinicians’ hours to fully grasp the realities of medical practice, the nuances of different orthopaedic specialties, and the complexities of patient care.
  • Educational Seminar Series: A dedicated lunchtime seminar series will complement your clinical observations, providing additional learning opportunities.
  • Student Presentations: With guidance from physician mentors, students will research and present on selected topics to their peers.
  • Clinical Research Opportunities: Engage in clinical research projects, again with the support and guidance of a physician mentor.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions (imperative to success and to avoid interruption of patient care)
  • Professionalism (essential at all times)
  • Respect towards OAW physicians, who are voluntarily participating in this program.

Program Logistics & Requirements:

  • Dates: June 1, 2025 – June 30, 2026 (4 Weeks)
  • Eligibility: Applicant must be a current college student or beyond.
  • Application Materials:
    • An official COLLEGE TRANSCRIPT
    • A COMPLETED APPLICATION
    • Both should be sent directly to Orthopaedic Associates of Wisconsin.
  • Priority Status: Given to incoming juniors, seniors, and graduate-level students.
  • Application Deadline: March 15, 2026.
  • Notification: Only accepted applicants will be notified by April 1, 2026, due to the volume of applications.
  • Application Fee: There is no application fee.
  • Compensation: This is a NON-PAID Internship.
  • Participant Responsibilities: Housing, transportation, and lodging are the sole responsibility of the participant.
  • Post-Acceptance Requirements: Accepted students will be required to submit a criminal background check and necessary health forms.
