Job Description: Summer Internship (Materials Service Line)
Terracon is seeking students pursuing a BS or Master’s degree in civil or construction engineering for a summer internship in Houston, TX, running from May to August. The internship may extend beyond the summer for students attending school near the Houston office. The position focuses on Terracon’s Materials service line and offers a hands-on experience working alongside experienced engineers and utilizing state-of-the-art technology.
Key Responsibilities and Learning Opportunities:
• Project Involvement: Contribute to project management, execution, and client development. Learn to effectively write proposals, manage change orders, and ensure projects are completed safely, accurately, and profitably.
• Technical Skills: Gain practical experience in site safety, sampling and testing procedures, equipment handling, and report writing. Develop an understanding of industry standards (ASTM, DOT, COE, etc.) and quality management systems.
• Client Interaction: Learn about consulting engineering, client relations, and how to effectively communicate test results.
• Mentorship: Work closely with a designated mentor for technical skill development and career planning. Learn about the interactions between the Materials service line and clients, differentiating it from design engineering.
• Laboratory and Field Work: Participate in routine tasks assisting technicians and professional staff. This includes transporting equipment and samples, and physically assisting with equipment setup.
Requirements:
• High school diploma and enrollment in a BS or Master’s degree program in civil or construction engineering.
• Preference given to candidates with less than one year remaining in their BS degree program.
