Job Description: Summer Internship (Materials Service Line)

Location: Houston, TX

Duration: May – August (potential extension through the school year for local students)

Terracon seeks students pursuing a BS or Master’s degree in civil or construction engineering for a summer internship within its Materials service line. Ideal candidates will have less than one year remaining in their BS program.

Responsibilities: Interns will gain hands-on experience in various aspects of materials engineering, working alongside experienced professionals and utilizing state-of-the-art technology. Specific tasks and learning opportunities include:

Project Management and Execution: Learning effective proposal writing, client management, change order management, and safe, accurate, and profitable project execution. Topics covered will include project management, project execution, and client development.
Field and Laboratory Work: Participating in site safety practices, performing sampling and testing, assisting field and laboratory personnel, transporting equipment and specimens, and assisting in equipment setup.
Technical Skills: Understanding industry standard proposal and report writing practices, learning test procedures (ASTM, DOT, COE, etc.), preparing reports, communicating test results to clients, and understanding laboratory organization, scheduling, and efficiency.
Professional Development: Working closely with a mentor for career planning and technical skill development. Learning about the consulting engineering field, including client interaction and the differences between consulting and design engineering. Exposure to quality management systems and procedures.

Requirements:

• High school diploma and enrollment in a BS or Master’s degree program in civil or construction engineering.
• Preference given to candidates with less than one year remaining to complete their BS degree.
