Job Title: Summer Internship – Budget and Sustainability (Sustainability Analyst)
Department: Office of Sustainability, within the Department of Budget and Sustainability
About the Internship:
This summer internship offers a valuable opportunity to contribute directly to sustainability initiatives within a municipal government setting. Working with the Office of Sustainability, the intern will gain hands-on experience in data management, program support, and community engagement, playing a key role in advancing the city’s environmental and sustainability goals.
Internship Duration & Compensation:
- Duration: Planned to run from June 8th to July 31st (approximately 8 weeks)
- Rate of Pay:
- Undergraduate College Students: $15.00 per hour
- Graduate Students: $18.00 per hour
Key Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Sustainability Analyst Intern will include, but are not limited to:
- Data Management & Analysis: Perform comprehensive data collection, entry, management, analysis, tracking, and research related to various sustainability metrics and programs.
- Reporting & Visualization: Prepare diagnostic tools such as spreadsheets, charts, and tables. Assist in developing detailed reports to communicate findings and progress.
- Dashboard Development: Contribute to the development of data dashboards for visualizing sustainability performance and enhancing data accessibility.
- Program Implementation & Outreach: Assist with the implementation of “Sustainable Coral Springs” initiatives, including active participation in community outreach and educational programs.
- Strategy Evaluation: Evaluate strategies for achieving sustainability-related metrics and goals, develop recommendations and observations, and prepare descriptive information.
- Departmental Support: Conduct additional tasks as needed to support the broader objectives of the Department of Budget and Sustainability.

- Municipal Operations: Develop a thorough understanding of municipal operations and the critical role cities play in promoting sustainability.
- Metrics & Evaluation: Understand how to develop, track, and present key metrics for effective program evaluation.
- Strategic Integration: Learn strategic approaches for integrating sustainability through policy development, operational protocols, innovative programs, and collaborative partnerships.
- Professional Skills: Develop and practice essential communication, workplace, and data management skills in a professional environment.
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):
- Education: Undergraduate, graduate student, or a recently graduated individual in sustainability, ecology, public health, political science, environmental science, geography, or a related field.
- Research & Data Experience: Prior experience conducting research, collecting, and cleaning data.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience with software tools such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI, or Story Maps.
- Sustainability Knowledge: A foundational understanding of basic principles of sustainability.
Required Background Screening:
All interns must successfully pass a mandatory background screening, which includes a criminal background investigation.
