Summer Intern – Nickel/Ferro Alloys

About the Role:

As a Summer Intern in Nickel/Ferro Alloys, you will play a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of the trading desk. Your responsibilities will involve a blend of administrative, logistical, and analytical tasks, providing you with hands-on experience in commodity trading and supply chain management. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to international commodity markets within a leading global firm.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Contract and Warehouse Management: Coordinate and manage all aspects of contract administration and warehouse functions.
  • Inventory Control: Utilize an inventory control system to accurately record inventory levels and ensure material availability.
  • Shipping Documentation: Prepare, process, and distribute necessary shipping documents, including coordinating import/export clearances, issuing bills of lading, and managing GSP requirements.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Interface effectively with suppliers, customers, and inter-company offices as required.
  • Customer Quotes: Ensure monthly customer quotes are met efficiently.
  • Record Keeping and Financial Processing: Maintain meticulous inventory records, allocate movements within the trading system, and process material invoices and secondary costs.
  • Logistics Coordination: Arrange and track transportation and logistics for products, addressing any inquiries or issues from customers, warehouses, or suppliers.
  • Pricing and Hedging: Ensure accurate and timely booking of pricing and hedging into the front-end trading system, and report hedge instructions promptly.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit various reports to the accounting department for daily, monthly, and yearly inventory tracking, including inventory reconciliation and insurance declarations.

Desired Skills and Experience:

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual with a strong interest in international commodity markets. You should demonstrate the following:

  • Academic Background: Currently pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or an equivalent field, with an excellent academic record.
  • Analytical and Communication Skills: Possess strong analytical, writing, and planning capabilities.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word is essential.
  • Work Ethic: Proactive, detail-oriented, reliable, and equipped with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ambition and Entrepreneurial Spirit: Ambitious, entrepreneurial, and eager to learn and contribute.
  • Market Interest: A strong and genuine interest in international commodity markets.

Additional Information:

  • Compensation: This is a paid internship, compensated at $23 per hour.
  • Work Location: In-person office attendance is required Monday – Thursday, in accordance with Glencore’s US policy.
  • Office Address: 330 Madison Ave, New York, NY 10017.
  • Transportation: The intern will be responsible for their own transport costs to and from the Glencore office.
