STUDENT INTERN – SETTLEMENTS (HDQ) | Basin Electric Power Cooperative

The Tone:
This is a temporary student internship at Basin Electric Power Cooperative, located at its Headquarters building in Bismarck, ND. This position is specifically for the summer months of 2027, from approximately May 17 to August 20. As a cooperative, Basin Electric is owned by its members and focused on providing reliable power. This role provides project-based assistance in the Energy Markets division, allowing the intern to gain exposure to Cooperative operations and practices while supporting teams with hands-on tasks and assignments appropriate to their field of study.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Contract Settlement: Assist with the checkout process of gas purchase and sales contracts to ensure accurate settlement of transactions.
• Wind Power Agreements: Assist with the settlement of wind purchase power agreements, including validating curtailments and providing calculations for counterparties to confirm.
• Transaction Settlement: Assist with the settlement of short-term transmission, energy, and capacity transactions.
• Monthly Billing: Complete monthly billing processes.
• Market Analysis: Investigate abnormalities in market activities to determine causes and develop solutions to resolve or improve market functions.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Enrolled as a full-time student in a four-year Business, Finance, or Accounting program with at least two years completed, or a recent graduate (within the past 12 months) in one of these fields. Must be at least 18 years of age and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5.
• Experience: No specific years of experience are required beyond academic progress. A transcript is required at the time of application, and applications without one will not be reviewed.
• Skills: Effective written and verbal communication skills, research and analytical thinking abilities, proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel, and strong organization and attention to detail.
• Bonus: Previous internship or relevant work experience, or additional certifications or coursework in the field of study.
