Job Title: Summer Intern – Design Engineering

Location: Decoursey, KY – Trackworks – 016 (PRS Facility)

Job Purpose:

The Engineering Student Intern will support the Trackwork Design Engineering team. The intern will gain experience in designs, maintaining and modifying Engineering drawings, and creating and managing Bills of Materials (BOMs). The position aims to provide the student intern with valuable skills and industry knowledge.

Key Job Elements:

• Performs design/layout and creates drawings of equipment for new products or existing product improvement.
• Assist with the creation of CAD drawings, 3D models, and drawings of parts and assemblies from sketches provided by engineers as well as self-initiated projects.
• Develops bills of materials for design projects.
• Assist Project Engineers with validating products and subsystems.
• Support closure of outstanding tracked work (deviations, change requests, marketing requests, and part substitution requests).

Responsibilities:

• Performs design/layout and creates drawings of equipment for new products or existing product improvement.
• Creates 3D models and drawings of parts and assemblies from sketches provided by engineers as well as self-initiated projects.
• Reads and interprets customer specifications; meets and communicates with customers to clarify needs.
• Coordinates with vendors to best spec out components.
• Develops bills of materials for design projects.
• Issues Engineering Change Notices.
• Releases finished projects to manufacturing.
• Identifies continuous improvements for cost out, shop floor and value-added engineering.
• Assists/trains other employees when needed; helps with shop issues when they arise.
• Performs additional job-related duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

AutoCAD proficiency; must be familiar with AutoCAD program to create legible drawings and have experience in creating and maintaining bill of materials.
• Strong math background, specifically geometry and trigonometry.
• Basic knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and welding; focus on thinking in terms of DFMEA as well as ease of manufacturing and assembly.
• Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software; ability to accurately design, CAD and check projects.
• Ability to read and understand specification and standards documents.
• Communication skills (both oral and written), multi-tasking, and organizational skills.
• Strong attention to detail; strong problem solving, investigative and collaborative skills.
• High level of interpersonal skills; ability to work together in a team environment.
• Proficiency with MS Office tools (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Blueprint Reading.
• Ability to read and understand specification and standard documents and work instructions.

Preferred Skills:

• 2D and 3D CAD software experience.
