About the Summer Intern, Audit Department Opportunity

Embark on a dynamic, engaging, and profoundly insightful summer experience as an Audit Intern at BNSF Railway. This program is meticulously designed for aspiring audit professionals, offering a comprehensive deep dive into the railroad industry’s intricate audit processes, robust governance, strategic risk management, and critical internal control frameworks.

Throughout your summer with us, you will collaborate directly with our seasoned audit team, actively participate in real-world audit projects, and contribute meaningfully to the department’s objectives. Key Responsibilities May Include

  • Gather and analyze complex financial and operational information, including SOX testing, control environment evaluations, and engaging in special projects.
  • Diligently examine evidence obtained during audits to assess compliance with company policies, procedural adequacy, and the overall effectiveness of internal controls.
  • Actively assist in conducting thorough testing based on defined audit objectives and methodologies.
  • Meticulously document all evidence of testing within comprehensive audit work papers.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong, effective communication and professional rapport with both internal audit team members and various internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership potential, excel in teamwork, communicate clearly and concisely, adapt swiftly to changing priorities, and exhibit resilience in overcoming obstacles to meet critical deadlines within our dynamic work environment.

Work Environment & Logistics

This is a full-time, in-person position based in Fort Worth, TX. For eligible roles, including this one, employees have the flexibility to work remotely one day per week. Our leadership team is deeply committed to fostering a culture that respects and promotes work-life balance, understanding the need for flexibility when life’s events occur.

Travel requirements are minimal, but reliable transportation to and from our Fort Worth location is essential. Please note, relocation to Fort Worth, TX, is required if your current residence is more than 50 miles from the job site.

Your journey will commence with a comprehensive two-day orientation in Fort Worth, Texas, providing a thorough company overview and invaluable networking opportunities with BNSF leaders. This will be swiftly followed by hands-on support on ongoing projects and practical, in-depth training within the Audit Department.

Who You Are (Qualifications)

Basic Qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States and will be at least eighteen (18) years old upon hire.
  • Do not require BNSF Railway’s assistance (monetary, sponsorship, or otherwise) now or in the future to obtain, maintain, or extend employment authorization (e.g., H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status).
  • Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Accounting from an accredited university.
  • Possess and commit to maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75.
  • Have less than three (3) years of professional work experience, excluding internships, part-time jobs, or positions held while pursuing your undergraduate and/or graduate degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior intern experience or less than three (3) years of work experience specifically in Accounting.
  • Have held, or currently hold, a leadership position in a campus, community, or extracurricular organization.
