Fenton Summer Fellowship Program

We are seeking enthusiastic individuals for our Summer 2026 Fellowship Program. If you have prior communications experience through internships or academic studies, we want to hear from you!

Fellowship Dates: June 1, 2026 – August 28, 2026
Application Deadline: March 13, 2026
Compensation: $20/hr
Hours: Full-time, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Monday – Friday
Location: Hybrid – New York (NY), Washington D.C. (DC), Los Angeles (LA), San Francisco (SF)

Available Fellowship Positions:

1. Strategic/Earned Media Communications Fellow

This role focuses on traditional media relations and strategic communications, helping clients amplify their messages through earned media.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitor news media and social media; compile comprehensive coverage summaries.
  • Research relevant journalists for targeted pitches and build effective media lists.
  • Conduct media and peer audits to inform client research and discovery processes.
  • Pitch all levels of reporters, editors, producers, and bloggers.
  • Conduct research on issue areas, online communities, media markets, and new business prospects.
  • Assist in creating and editing press releases, advisories, pitch memos, fact sheets, op-eds, online content, and other collateral.
  • Support account staff with various media, administrative, and research activities.
  • Conduct communications audits and landscape/competitive analysis research; gather insights to inform campaigns and strategies.
  • Organize logistics for client meetings, conferences, and other events.
  • Develop presentations and design materials.
  • Proofread and copy edit documents for accuracy and clarity.
  • Participate actively in creative brainstorm sessions.
  • Support digital campaigns, website projects, and social media management as needed.

2. Digital Communications Fellow

This role is centered on leveraging digital platforms to engage audiences, manage online communities, and execute digital campaigns for progressive clients.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist account staff with various digital, administrative, and research activities.
  • Support social media campaigns and community management for a variety of progressive clients.
  • Write and develop compelling copy for outreach/campaign emails, blogs, and other forms of digital content.
  • Deploy and send direct communications via email sending and SMS platforms such as ActionNetwork and Mailchimp.
  • Conduct online monitoring (including challenging corners of the internet) to help clients optimize outreach or respond to opposition disinformation.
  • Support the deployment of paid campaigns on various platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Google AdWords.
  • Draft ad copy and manage tracking documents for client review.
  • Utilize online metrics tools to report on statistics for websites, social media sites, email campaigns, and online advertising.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

  • Eligible college students entering junior or senior year, or recent college graduates.
  • Demonstrated strong writing and research skills.
  • Passion for communications – understanding what gets clicks, why words matter, and the broader impact of messaging.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and effectively pivot in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • A genuine interest in social issues and making a positive impact.
  • An affinity for traditional and digital news media.

Work Environment & Location:

Fenton operates on a hybrid remote/in-office worksite model. All employees are required to live within a 35-mile radius of any one of our four strategic hubs: New York City, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, or San Francisco. Fellows have the flexibility to work remotely from home and will travel to Company meetings/events as needed, or utilize any of our shared workspaces.

Authorization to Work:

Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Capstone Presentation:

At the completion of the fellowship, with guidance and mentorship from your Fellow advisor, you will develop a 5-10 minute Capstone Presentation for Fenton staff. This presentation will outline your role on an assigned client project, sharing key learnings, the strategies, tools, and tactics used, as well as the results achieved and overall insights gained.
