The proposed position is based within the Process Modeling and Data Science group within CMC Development, R&D. This group specializes in using mechanistic, data-driven, and hybrid models to accelerate process development activities.

The primary project focus is to develop high-fidelity models to support the development of protein capture and polishing steps. Beyond model development and calibration, the project will delve into exploring alternative error metrics and advanced tools to enhance model evaluation and robustness. The candidate will also have the opportunity to leverage optimization and uncertainty quantification tools to improve model calibration and sensitivity analysis. These efforts are crucial for increasing model fidelity and building confidence for broader application in process development.

Main Responsibilities

The ideal co-op candidate will be responsible for:

  • Applying knowledge and hands-on experience in modeling of chromatography using mechanistic approaches (e.g., transport-dispersive, general rate, or lumped rate) or hybrid approaches.
  • Collaborating effectively with downstream scientists, utilizing an understanding of experimental requirements to iteratively improve the overall modeling workflow.
  • Demonstrating the benefits of process modeling and data science in accelerating the development of cutting-edge medicines.

About You

Basic Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a master’s degree or PhD in Chemical, Biochemical Engineering or a related field at an accredited college or university.
  • Ability to relocate to the office location and work 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, for the full duration of the co-op.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US for the duration of the co-op.
  • Demonstrated programming skills in languages such as Python, MATLAB, or R.
  • Experience in developing mechanistic or hybrid models for chromatography using either custom code or existing tools (e.g., GoSilico, Cadet).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of experimental chromatography workflows.
  • Interest or experience in evaluating model performance using a variety of error metrics.
  • Exposure to tools for optimization, sensitivity analysis, or uncertainty quantification.
  • Experience with statistics and AI/ML.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team with modelers and downstream scientists.
