Job Description: Summer Engineer Intern

This summer internship program offers more than just a job; it’s an opportunity to make a real impact. Interns will take on a project directly contributing to CoorsTek’s business goals, gaining hands-on experience and working alongside industry experts. The program includes a final presentation to leadership, exciting events, networking opportunities, and a supportive learning environment.

Role and Responsibilities:

As an Engineering Intern, you will:

• Support the manufacturing team in developing and improving manufacturing processes, products, and equipment.
• Work closely with experienced engineers and production staff.
• Gain hands-on experience in process design, Lean Six Sigma projects, and quality control.
• Identify and implement process improvements.
• Troubleshoot technical issues.
• Support ongoing production operations.
• Apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges.
• Contribute to the success of a dynamic manufacturing organization.
• Lead a small but impactful process improvement project under the supervision of the plant’s Process Engineer.
• Learn project management, structured problem-solving, and ceramics manufacturing.
• Explore different aspects of being an engineer at CoorsTek alongside a team of Design and Quality Engineers.

Job Requirements:

Education & Experience: Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree engineering program (Junior or Senior standing). A Ceramics, Materials, or Chemical Engineering degree is preferred. Previous internship or engineering/manufacturing experience is a plus.
Functional/Technical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Interest and/or coursework in Chemical Engineering or Material Science.
• Coursework in Fluid Dynamics, Heat Transfer, and Engineering Controls is a plus.
Foresight: Critical thinking and risk assessment skills.
Accountability: Demonstrated personal integrity and responsibility.
Determination: Ability to work independently with little to moderate supervision.
Teamwork: Effective collaboration and communication skills.
Time Management: Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
Problem-solving: Analytical skills and ability to implement effective solutions.
Data analysis: Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting data using statistical methods and software.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Proficiency in technical writing and documentation.
• Familiarity with Quality Control, Lean Six Sigma, or Project Management is a plus.
• Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLC), loop controllers, and automation is a plus.
• Ability to work with diverse people from different cultures and backgrounds.

Duration: Approximately June-August.
Location: Hillsboro, OR (onsite).
