About the Job: Summer Data Science/Computer Engineering Internship – Geismar, LA
This is a Summer Data Science/Computer Engineering Internship position located in Geismar, LA, designed for undergraduate and graduate students.
Program Summary:
The internship is a 10 to 12-week rotational program, with a potential start date in late May/early June 2026. Interns will learn how data science is applied across various domains by joining production, business, and research and development teams. This provides exposure to different data science use-cases and problem-solving approaches. Interns will also build a global network with experts and collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds while developing data science solutions.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables:
• Be ‘hands-on’ and have the opportunity to lead high-value projects.
• Execute deliverables during all phases of an analytics project, from definition to completion.
• Develop appropriate machine learning and optimization models.
• Collaborate with members from other functions to gather and validate necessary data.
• Present project results and benefits to key stakeholders and internal clients.
• Communicate ideas and solutions effectively to a broad community of non-mathematicians.
• Act as a driving force in international and interdisciplinary project teams.
• Gain exposure to the leadership, technical, and scientific aspects of plant engineering, including working in areas of safety and environment.
• Utilize area of study experience to complete various Engineering projects, fostering technical and professional skill development.
• Present the summer project to other interns, BASF employees, and senior leaders upon completion.

Tools and Technologies Interns Will Work With and Learn:
• Programming Languages: Python and R.
• Web Frameworks/Libraries: RShiny, Dash, Flask, and HTML.
• Version Control: Git.
• Databases: SQL.
• Data Visualization: Tableau and PowerBI.
• Cloud Platforms: AWS, Databricks, and Azure.
• Containerization/Virtualization: Virtual environments and Docker containers.
Requirements for Applicants:
• Academic Standing: Undergraduate and graduate students majoring in Data Science/Computer Engineering.
• Enrollment Level: College Sophomores and Juniors (anticipated graduation between April 2027 and July 2028).
• Academic Achievement: Demonstrated academic achievement with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Work Authorization: Authorization to work in the U.S. now and in the future without restrictions or the need for future sponsorship.
• Experience & Skills:
• Demonstrated previous leadership experience and academic achievement.
• Programming experience in R and Python is required for some projects.
• Basic knowledge of machine learning, artificial intelligence, big data, and new technologies.
• Active participation in extracurricular activities and on-campus organizations.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Outstanding work ethic and leadership potential.
• Previous internship/co-op experience is a plus.
• Bilingual skills are a plus.
Interview Process:
If selected, candidates will participate in a 45-minute on-site interview with BASF representatives at the Geismar location.
Compensation:
The competitive Pay Range for this role is $2,000 – $2,320 on a biweekly basis. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
