POSITION SUMMARY
The McAfee & Taft summer clerk program is designed to offer summer associates an authentic insight into the firm’s practice and culture. It aims to provide an understanding of what new associates can expect during their initial years at McAfee & Taft. Each summer clerk will be paired with a shareholder and an associate, who will offer continuous guidance and advice throughout their tenure at the firm.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Successful candidates for this role will be expected to perform the following duties:
Receive work assignments from attorneys across various practice areas.
Apply law school research and writing training to address real-world legal challenges.
Observe and gain exposure to various legal proceedings and client interactions, including trials, depositions, hearings, closings, and client meetings.
Attend firm social functions, lunches, and events to integrate into the firm’s culture.
Submit work projects weekly, consistently meet deadlines, and be receptive to constructive guidance to enhance and improve their work product.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: A Bachelor’s degree is required. Applicants must be actively attending law school. An equivalent combination of educational performance and general experience is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 4 years of a completed undergraduate program and 1 to 2 years of law school is required.
Computer Skills: Proficiency with MS Office Suite is required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with co-workers.
• Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is a professional office setting. The majority of activity performed in this role will be sedentary work.
