Summer 2026 Renewables Control Center (RCC) Performance Engineering Co-Op/Internship

  • Shift: 8 hours/day, 5 days/week (Monday – Friday)

Accountabilities (Key Responsibilities):

As a successful candidate for this Co-Op/Internship, you would contribute significantly to the Renewables Control Center by:

  • Assisting in the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive tool to track department metrics and generate internal performance reports that justify the impact of the Renewables Control Center (RCC). (20%)
  • Supporting system root cause analysis (RCA) for solar and energy storage facilities’ monitoring and control software. This includes assisting in the facilitation and tracking of resulting action plans to improve appropriate system performance. (10%)
  • Contributing to document creation to support the RCC and to establish standards for the department as it grows with new technologies. (30%)
  • Supporting the Renewables Operations Engineer (ROE) in TEC’s alarm rationalization efforts, which are crucial for ensuring the safe and reliable operations of the renewables fleet. (25%)
  • Assisting the ROE in testing the monitoring and control software utilized by the Renewables System Operators (RSOs). (15%)

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSA):

  • Excellent communication skills to clearly convey ideas to all levels within the organization.
  • Ability and desire to learn supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software, energy management system (EMS) software, and work management systems in power generation and delivery.
  • Strong project management and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of database concepts.

Education & Certification Requirements:

  • The successful applicant should be in their second, third, or fourth year of an ABET-accredited university or college undergraduate program, or a graduate-level post-secondary educational program in an engineering discipline.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.
  • To qualify as a co-op student, enrollment in the university’s co-op program is mandatory.

Working Conditions:

  • The Renewables Control Center Performance Engineering Co-Op can expect to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Physical Demands/Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in dusty and hot environments.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend from ladders and stairs.
  • Requires walking (sometimes on uneven surfaces), bending, and driving as needed.
