Job Summary/Mission


Lockheed Martin Space in Palo Alto, CA is seeking a Summer 2026 Intern to join the Space Science and Instrumentation Team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in the integration and test activities for the MUSE SmallSat Spacecraft Bus. The ideal candidate will possess experience and/or foundational knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, coupled with a demonstrated capacity to conceptualize, develop, and successfully implement solutions.

Key Responsibilities


• Contribute to the integration of the MUSE SmallSat Spacecraft Bus.
• Participate in the test activities for the MUSE SmallSat Spacecraft Bus.
• Conceptualize, develop, and implement solutions related to mechanical engineering tasks.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:


• Currently enrolled in and have completed at least 2 years of a Mechanical Engineering program or a related degree from an accredited university.
• Demonstrated understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
• Proficiency with CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software.
• Proficiency with MatLab.
• Proficiency with standard computer skills including Word, PowerPoint, & Excel.

Desired Skills:


• Ability to thrive in a collaborative and highly integrated team environment.
• Ability and desire to assume ownership of tasks and drive them to closure quickly and efficiently.
• Prior experience in mechanical assembly.
• Experience with soldering.
• Experience working with composite materials.
• Demonstrated team leadership experience.

Work Schedule Information


Lockheed Martin offers a variety of alternate work schedules to provide additional flexibility. Schedules may range from a standard 40 hours over a five-day work week to condensed schedules, offering employees additional time away from the office, in addition to Paid Time Off benefits.

Salary & Benefits

National Pay Statement (Excluding most major metropolitan areas in CA, MA, NY):


Annual Base Salary Range: $31,616 – $77,788 (for California, Massachusetts, and New York – excluding most major metropolitan areas; Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC).
• For states not referenced above, the salary range will reflect the candidate’s final work location.
• Salary is a general guideline. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as scope and responsibilities, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, and market/business considerations.

Premium Pay Statement (Most major metropolitan areas in CA, MA, NY):


Annual Base Salary Range: $36,504 – $77,788 (for most major metropolitan areas in California, Massachusetts, and New York).
• For states not referenced above, the salary range will reflect the candidate’s final work location.
• Salary is a general guideline. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as scope and responsibilities, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, and market/business considerations.
